Hey Jim-

As a relatively new rider myself (2+ years), I can say reading books and magazines will help submerse you in the sport. I read all kinds of books on technique and culture. I have a link at my web site of books and links you can check out.

I get 6 bike mags per month at home: AMA's rag, Motorcycle Consumer News, Hot Rod Bikes, Street Chopper, and Motorcycle Cruiser (+ Motorcyclist which I don't like all that much). I read them cover to cover.

But the best thing to do is RIDE! Wear gear and have fun. I took the course too (and still dropped my bike). The best thing about being new and taking the course is that you don't have too many bad habits to break. 12 years ago a guy taught me to ride a bike, WRONG!

I feel really confident on the road, but understand I can get flattened quickly if I lose concentration.
